What we do
We are a dynamic and enthusiastic group located in Bentleigh.
Scouting is a worldwide movement that has shaped the development of youth and adults for 100 years and is the biggest and most successful youth organisation in Australia.
More than 20,000 boys, girls, and adults in Victoria from wide cultural and religious backgrounds including those with an intellectual or physical disability enjoy an unlimited range of activities.
The aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development of young people so they may play a constructive role in society as responsible citizens and as members of their local and international communities. This aim is achieved through a strong and active program that inspires young people to do their best and to always be prepared.
Scouts are separated into age-based Sections with each Section taking more responsibility for their own activities as they progress. All Sections share a steady diet of self-respect, confidence, leadership, teamwork, creativity, environmental awareness and community involvement, and there are plenty of events and activities in which everyone can get involved together.
Cub Scouts (8-10 years)
Cub Scouts have a heap of fun doing activities, craft, community service and camping.
Cub Scouts also have the opportunity to earn proficiency badges and awards including the Bronze, Silver and Gold Boomerang, and the coveted Grey Wolf. As they reach the end of their time, Cub Scouts begin a transition phase into becoming a Scout by 11 years of age.
Cub Scout meetings are held every Wednesday from 6.30 pm to 8.00pm during school terms. In addition there are occasional sleepovers, camps and assisting at community events and fundraising activities.
Scouts (11-14 years)
As members of the original Scouting movement, Scouts strive to achieve proficiency badges as well as their Pioneer, Explorer and Adventurer cords and the coveted Australian Scout Medallion. Scouts are introduced to leadership roles, and are very active in assisting with planning their own diverse and exciting activities.
Scout meetings are held every Thursday from 7.00pm to 9.00pm during school terms. In addition there are regular weekend activities, camps and assisting at community events and fundraising activities.
Venturer Scouts (15-17 years)
Venturers are dedicated to fun and adventure, while serving the community in the Scouting way. If it sounds adventurous and exciting there is a good chance that Venturers do it.
1st Bentleigh Venturers meet every Thursday from 7.30 pm to 9.30pm as part of a District Venturer Unit.
Rover Scouts (18-25 years)
Rovers are dedicated to fun and adventure while serving the community in the Scouting way. Rovers are the future leaders of the Scouting movement and many volunteer their time assisting with the younger sections while having many adventures with their own Rover Crew.
The 1st Bentleigh Hellsgate Rover Crew meet on Mondays at 7.30pm at the Glen Eira Stonnington District Hall in E.E. Gunn Reserve on Foch St, Ormond.
